9 Feb 2007 - Visit from Jane Serraillier Grossfeld

On Firday the 9th of February, Jane Serraillier Grossfeld came to The Downley School to give a presentation to Year 6's about her father, Ian Serraillier, who wrote 'The Silver Sword' and many other novels.

She started off by introducing herself and showing us certain events in her father's life and telling us to compare his life with the events in the book to see if there was a connection. We found that Ian was a teacher and that the father in the book was a teacher.

Finally she showed us a slideshow about how he got his book published and the pictures about his life. She then passed round a paper knife that was used as the Silver Sword. She told us to look at the specific details on the sword, like the word Toledo, which is where it was made.

We would like to thank Jane for coming in and showing us the wonderful life of her father and Miss McDonough for arranging it
